Operating Safety

If there is a railroad accident involving the transportation of dangerous chemical substances, we have the following mechanisms in place to respond to spills:

  • The Dispatch Center reports the accident and reports any chemical leak or spill.
  • If there is a chemical spill, the Chemical Emergency Response and Remediation Plan (PAREQ) is activated and, if necessary, the emergency brigade is dispatched to control and contain the spill.
  • Once the emergency has been controlled, the damage to the environment is assessed and the protocols set by the SEMARNAT are followed to correct and restore the environmental conditions at the site.

Benefits of the railroad in terms of environmental impact. The railroad moves 3.9 times more tons/km per liter of diesel than trucks.
